Torchwood

Months and months ago Channel Ten aired "Torchwood" a spin-off series from Doctor Who. Torchwood is referenced quite often in the recent DW series (it's in fact an anagram of Doctor Who). If you haven't seen it, it's an adult version of DW- very "gritty" as they say but still quite light-hearted and doesn't take itself at all too seriously.

Anyway after the first few episodes, Ten in its infinite wisdom started moving it around in the schedule and it just got to be too hard to keep up with it. Then way back in August, whilst shopping for Margaret's birthday, I found the DVDs of Series 1, Part 1. This has the first 5 episodes, which I'd already seen... but I thought it would be a great Father's Day present for me :)

Last night, I did what I rarely do, had a DVD binge. It was 1 am by the time I decided it really was too late to watch another episode.. so I still have to watch No. 5.

It was very good. It is a quality production that deserved better treatment by Channel 10. When you think of all the rubbish they endlessly promote- Big Brother, Idol and America's Next Supermodel come to mind, not to mention the endless repeats of Law and Order and NCIS which are often shown in random order so that dead people are resurrected the following week- they could have put Torchwood on at a decent and predictable time.

If anyone's still wondering what to buy me for Christmas it's Torchwood Series 1, Part 2. :) I believe Dr Who Series 1 and 2 are already spoken for... I could be spending a lot of time in front of the television in January.
