Bubblegum for your soul

From Alan Hirsch

Bubblegum for your soul

I recently watched the R.E.M. video Shiny Happy People and I couldn’t help thinking that it reminded me of worship in a local church that I attended recently. Actually it was not worship, it was more like a sing-along. You know, that postive, middle-of-the-road kind of music that fails to really stir the spirit and move the heart: instead it promotes an inane sense of happy, spiritual, indolence.–kinda like bubblegum for the soul. Chew on this.

From Keith:

So would the same be true at New Life?

I like the song and video clip, but it's obvioulsy not worship!

Blessings

Keith

  1. One man's bubblegum may be another's encouragement. What I have seen:- One's joyful, encouraging leading as another's "performance".- One's path to God as another's painfully distracting off-key stumbling block. - One's worshipful encounter of God's presence as another's "nice, but unimportant".- One's "God is now here" as another's "God is nowhere".Nothing against Alan Hirsch, and he may well be right in his comparison, but when others make comments like this I usually think it says as much about the individual as it does about the situation.
