Another Climate Change "Fact" Disproved

A few years ago when the IPCC still had some credibility, the ongoing drought in south-eastern Australia, particularly the Murray-Darling Basin was cited as proof that "climate change is already happening", or more importantly that "human caused climate change is here."

...

Now scientists are saying that the region has been unusually dry for the last 150 years when they look at the record of 1000 years.

So it seems there is another thing we can't blame CO2 for.

From the ABC:

Stalagmites show recent drought not unusual

Newcastle scientists say 1,000-year-old stalagmites show the south-east of Australia has been drying out for more than 300 years.

Researchers have been analysing stalagmites from Wombeyan Caves in the southern highlands, which contain information about rainfall patterns over the last millennium.

Janece McDonald from the University of Newcastle says the stalagmites show the south-east has been particularly dry for the last 150 years.

Dr McDonald says in that context the recent drought is not unusual.

"What it is showing is that we have had a lot of change in the last 1,000 years," she said. "That the last 150 years are not representative of what has happened over the last 1,000 years."
