Reflection on Colossians 3:1-11

Scripture
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven where Christ sits in the place of honour at God's right hand.

Observation
Paul is clear that the key to living the Christian life is to set our eyes on Jesus. He is the one who sets us free from sin.

We find it easy to get distracted from our destiny by the urgency and immediacy of the things around us. We need to see as clearly the reality of heaven.

The consequences of dying to this life are that our priorities and motivation change. Instead of following the selfish ways of sin, we begin to be renewed by the power of Christ in us.

Application
Sin can be a confusing issue for many Christians. If I am Spirit-filled how comce sin continues to have such a hold over me?

The real issue is that we don't allow God to have every part of us. We have to die to ourselves, die to the old life and live to Christ.

The more we hold on to the greater the power of sin to derail us.

We need to settle the issue in our hearts that Christ is every thing- he is my security, my significance, my goal, my ambition. Everything that takes away from that must go.

Prayer
Jesus you are my life. Help me to walk the sanctified life- every part of me yielded to you for your purposes. Amen.
