I've just received news that someone I "knew" but never met has died of cancer.
Michael Spencer was known as the internet monk. He hosted, until recently, a weekly podcast and a blog in which he tried to encourage people to get to a Biblical form of evangelicalism instead of the fairy floss that passes for faith in many parts of Western Christianity these days.
Although I never met Michael, I feel saddened by his departure. He was a man of solid faith and deep convictions- values that I think are important. He articulated much of what I feel about serving God in the 21st Century. I think the American Church in particular will be lessened by his death.
While I am briefly saddened by his passing, I can look forward to meeting him in eternity. There's going to be some great people there!
Yes, it's interesting to think that we will finally be able to meet people that we have never actually seen in person on earth!
