Here are a couple of news items from the last few weeks which should have people wondering what on earth is going on in our society. Doesn't anyone see the massive contradictions? Is "The Matrix" really a true description of life?
Item 1: Authorities at Sydney's Taronga Zoo announce that the long awaited baby elephant has died in the mother's womb. Massive outpouring of grief. A few days later the elephant is miraculously born alive and healthy, initially christened "Mr Shuffles" until a more dignified Thai name is found for him.
So vets were mistaken about the pre-birth state of an yet-to-be-born animal the size of a small car, yet doctors routinely advise mothers to abort their children when tests indicate there may be a problem. I am so thankful we never listened to that advice because we would never have had Joshua.
Item 2: A Sydney mother visiting hospital for a pre-natal check gave birth to a baby at 22 weeks gestation in a toilet. The baby was rescued and revived and is expected to eventually be normal, after some time in intensive care. Abortions are legal up to 20 weeks. We call them foetuses and deny they are really human. Margaret was 22 weeks when advised to abort Joshua. When she protested that this was illegal, the doctor said there is always some doubt about dates.
We grieve over elephants that are pronounced dead in the womb, but abort thousands of little children every year. We call them "foetal tissue" but the fact is that they are human beings!
What kind of topsy-turvy world are we living in? Why don't our media commentators, politicians, and other leaders see the contradiction? Are people really as blind as it seems?

I think it's willful blindness.
ReplyDeletePerhaps... I think people don't like to think too deeply about their beliefs and actions. We rush from experience to experience without pausing to really think. Consequently the inconsistencies don't jar us the way they should
