Scripture
Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It's the Lord!”
Observation
Did Peter think he was going back to work, or was this a spot of recreational fishing?
It's not clear what Peter was thinking, but Jesus changed his plans. Having caught nothing they listen to a stranger who who tells them to cast the nets on the other side of the boat. They pull in a huge catch and recognise the risen Lord.
Jesus eats with them. He then restores Peter back into the fellowship broken by Peter's denial of Jesus. With the three time s repeated question, “Do you love me?” Peter is commissioned to care for Jesus' flock.
Application
If we are followers of Jesus, there is no such thing as “business as usual”. Even if we are in a business situation, Jesus still has to have our full attention, and He always has the right to interrupt our schedule.
The good news is that even when He overturns our plans, He will give us success in what we do for His glory. Peter did not expect a record haul of fish, but in submitting to Jesus' command His labour is abundantly blessed.
Prayer
Jesus, I offer my life into your hands again. Use me to your purposes in everything I do. Help me to listen to you and to obey you in all things. Amen.
My prayer too.
