It's been very cold here too. Maybe not in comparison with Canada and Europe, but much colder and cold longer than normal. Not sure how much global warming I can take! :D
I'd heard that they were shivering in Florida! It's interesting that record highs here have been proclaimed as signs of global warming but the record cold in Europe and North America is just natural variability. The great thing about climate change is that it can fit any scenario.
Our cold weather has created another issue aside from frozen crops and gardens. The strawberry growers and tomato people have been spraying thousands of gallons of water on their plants to keep them alive during the frost. As a result, water supplies have been depleated, the aquafer is very low and sink holes are appearing everywhere. In a town near us 30 appeared in one day. The sink holes are swallowing up houses and roads. The local government estimates that it costs $100k to fill each one. Kind of makes me wonder if it would be better just to not plant these crops in the winter months. I can understand them spraying the orange groves because of course the trees are not replanted evey year like the berries.
