Just prior to leaving home for our break, I picked up a copy of "God Sightings: The One Year Bible" to have a bit of a look at while on holidays.
The One Year Bible has been around for quite some years. The idea is quite simple- divide the Bible into 365 dated readings rather than the usual chapters and verses (although these are also present).
The One Year Bible is published in several versions. "God Sightings" is in the New Living Translation.
Each daily selection consists of an Old Testament reading starting at Genesis 1 and going through to Malachi, a New Testament passage starting at Matthew, a psalm and a portion from Proverbs.
The introductory notes encourage the reader to take whatever path through the readings that appeal. You can start at the beginning, start on the relevant day or just dip in and out. There is no demand to finish it in a year or in any time scale.
Since it's close to the beginning of the year and I'm on holidays, I'm reading 2 to 4 days' worth per day to catch up, and then I'll see how I progress as the year progresses.
I'm finding the juxtaposition of the various passages interesting and stimulating.
I would think that someone who is wanting to read through the Bible in a year or another time scale might find this a good way to do it.
There are also some excellent on-line resources and reading plans for those who prefer to read from a screen- just search One Year Bible.
The publishers also put out a bug range of daily devotional books-- some of which are in our bookshop.
I applaud every resource that encourages people to read the Bible. The One Year Bible is a very good resource for this.
Great idea!
