Reflection on Jeremiah 1:1-10

Scripture
I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I seet you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.

Observation
The Lord calls Jeremiah, appointing him as a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah lived in a very turbulent period in Israel's history, at the end of the southern kingdom's existence and into the time of the exile in Babylon.

Jeremiah says he is too young, but the Lord says, “I have appointed you.” Jeremiah's words will determine the destiny of whole nations because he has the authority of God.

Application
God's calling on our lives rests on His sovereignty, His ownership of us.

He made us for a purpose from the moment of conception. I was designed and appointed for a special purpose.
God is nor impressed by my lack of qualifications. I might be too young, too old, in the wrong place, uneducated, over-educated, too rich, too poor, God doesn't look at the externals, He looks at the heart. He will give me the qualifications I need.
God is looking for obedience not skills, faithfulness not expertise.
I must not allow the fear of people to deter me from following God's path. He promises me protection.
God will give me the words I need, How often people pull back from faith sharing or preaching or other ministry because they are afraid of not knowing what to say. God promises to put into our mouths the words needed,

Prayer
Here am I Lord, send me. Amen.

  1. Kind of a scarey thought. That is to think we have such important tasks that we are supposed to complete and yet so often we don't take it seriously enough.
