There's no parochialism like US parochialism

From the Sydney Morning Herald's Column 8:


Terry Collister, of Surry Hills, reports: ''A friend and I were in a bar in Portland, Oregon. After ordering some pitchers of beer (not jugs - never ask for a couple of jugs in a bar over there), the barmaid asked us to keep talking as she ''really dug our southern accents''. I replied that indeed they were southern - southern hemisphere. She then said we 'didn't look a bit Mexican' to her.''
