Reflection on Song of Songs 2:8-13

Scripture
Flowers appear on the earth, the season of singing has come.

Observation
Song of Songs is a passionate celebration of love. As well as representing the excitement of romantic love, it portrays the love of Christ for the church, and vice versa.

In this passage, the woman sees her lover as a stag or gazelle bounding across the mountains. He is a man of speed and strength but also gentle.

He speaks of the flowers, the blossoms, the joys of spring, the season of singing.

Application
With Jesus in our hearts, it is always a season of singing, the spring-time of new life. Of course we sometimes lose sight of that season of growth and excitement. The thrill of loving our Saviour seems to dull at times. But not for Him! Our God is always passionately in love with His people and He never grows weary of us.

Prayer
Jesus you are the lover of my soul. Your love for your people never grows cold. Help me at all times to fan into fire the hot embers of love and to not become distracted by the cares of this world. Amen.
