Software Fun
I've had some really good experiences using new software recently.
I love it when software is simple to use and does what it's supposed to do without fuss. I also love it when I have tricky things to do and I can find software to do exactly what I need. In this post I will share three simple tasks I had to do for the first time and how easy it was in the software that comes with Ubuntu. ...

A Word to Australia-- Reflection on Hosea 11:1-11
This started out as thoughts on Hosea 11:1-11, but as I wrote, it seems to be a prophetic call to our nation as we approach a critical Federal Election. I recommend you read the passage. ...

The Climate Crazies
I suppose it was inevitable that climate change would arise in a Federal Election campaign, but what a joke it is. ...

How Australia tries to evade our responsibilities...
Richard Ackland has a great article in today's SMH.
He writes:
Refugees' rights left stranded in sea of fear
RICHARD ACKLAND
In clumsy attempts to pander to reservoirs of resentment and fear, the two main parties have made a stupendous hash of their refugee policies.
Tony Abbott's desperation has taken him all over the place. Under his regime the navy will be delegated the discretion to tow boats of ''unlawful non-citizens'' back to sea. At the same time, asylum seekers who have ''deliberately'' destroyed their identity papers will be sent home. We're none the wiser how immigration officials will be able to decipher between deliberation and inadvertence.
Julia Gillard's East Timor policy is the unsightly mess that comes with crashing headlong into a hurdle rather than elegantly leaping it. For all the tiresome braggadocio and squawking passing for ''debate'', majority public opinion has not shifted in the past 20 years or so. ...

Refugees, Asylum Seekers and "Illegals"-- What Would Jesus Do?
This week I've been experiencing a lot of anger at situations that just shouldn't be. Just as Jesus was angry at the premature death of his friend Lazarus and the grief his friends experienced as a result, I found myself feeling angry at the death of a little baby born with too many physical limitations to survive. Then as the political debate in our country turned once again to asylum seekers and which party can be meanest to people who have no votes, I found a seething anger boiling inside me. ...

Spot the Mistake!
It always amazes me that journalists cannot distinguish between two different ideas. That lack of critical thinking has got us into the mess we are in where special interest groups are able to convince people of really stupid ideas with little rigorous proof. ...

Another Climate Change "Fact" Disproved
A few years ago when the IPCC still had some credibility, the ongoing drought in south-eastern Australia, particularly the Murray-Darling Basin was cited as proof that "climate change is already happening", or more importantly that "human caused climate change is here."

Sea Ice and Climate Change
You won't hear about this in the media because it runs against the great meta-narrative, but the amount of sea ice around Antarctica is increasing.[/color] ...
