After this, I heard the Lord ask, “Is there anyone I can send? Will someone go for us?”
“I'll go,” I answered. “Send me.”
Observation
Isaiah has a vision of the Lord which changes his life. The king Uzziah has died, but this is the living King, the Lord Almighty. His robe fills the Temple and the praise of the living creatures which attend his throne shake the Temple.
Isaiah is convicted of the Lord's holiness and of his own sin. He has seen the Lord, and suddenly he fears for his life.
But God provides a cleansing, a salvation in which the living creature purges Isaiah's sin by touching his lips with a burning coal.
The passage culminates with a mission to take a message to the people of Israel.
Application
Isaiah is convicted about the awesome majesty of God and about his personal sinfulness.
We all need a heart-level revelation of how mighty and holy God is. He holds the fate of the whole of creation in His hand. We cannot treat Him as a butler or a pal. Yes, we are friends of God, but that comes from His grace and not as our right.
The revelation of who God is should also propel us to mission. Just like Isaiah, we have been set free from our sin, and just like Isaiah we have a testimony to share, a message to declare, a mission to perform.
Prayer
Father give us a deep revelation , a conviction of your majesty. Show me today what my mission is and give me the grace to fulfil it. Amen.
