Reflection on Psalm 1

Scripture
Instead the Law of the Lord makes them happy and they think about it day and night.

Observation
The way of God is the way of true happiness. People try to build their lives on their own selfish ways- ambition, career, wealth etc.- but in the end it is only as we give ourselves to following God's ways that we can know true happiness.

The man who builds his life on God's Word is like a tree growing beside a stream- strong, fruitful, life-giving.

To follow any other path is to follow the path to eventual ruin- in this life and in eternity.

Being self-centred may give some short-term benefits, but it is ultimately destructive.

Application
We need to meditate on God's word day and night.

The way of the Lord is the only way to true strength- but to follow His way, we need to read the road-map of Scripture.

We live in a fast-paced society in which the world tries to pull us in so many different ways and to distract us from our true path. We need to determine to set aside time to refresh our spirits- prayer and Bible reading each and every day.

If we do that, God will bless all of our life.

Prayer
Lord, your Word is like a lamp to my feet. Help me to light it each day, reading and meditating on your Word. Help me to seek your ways in all that I do, applying scripture to every decision I make. Help me to set aside time every day to seek your face. Amen.
