Scripture:
If we have God's Son, we have life. But if we don't have God's Son, we don't have life.
Observation
The gospel sums up in a very nice statement- Know Christ, Know Life.
Eternity comes to us in the person of Jesus Christ. There is no other way to be saved; no other faith than faith in Jesus will open the gates of heaven.
How can we know this is true? Because God has told us. We do not rely on human teaching such as the teaching of Mohammed or a New Age guru.
If you can trust the word of a person, you can certainly trust God to keep His word.
Application
In the final analysis, salvation has nothing to do with WHAT we believe and everything to do with WHO we believe.
I can be sure of my destiny despite my many sins and my imperfect theology. I know Jesus and that relationship will get me there.
In a sense, it's like buying a plane ticket (though not from a budget airline!). When I travel by Qantas I know that even if there are hold-ups due to weather or even if I miss the boarding time, they will still get me there.
Even if I fail to take hold of all the benefits of walking with Christ, He will get me there. He has promised.
Prayer
Thank you Father for this wonderful assurance of my salvation. My arrival at the destination is guaranteed, because you have made the promise. Amen.
