Reflection on Ezekiel 37:1-14

Scripture

“My Spirit will give you breath and you will live again. I will bring you home and you will know I have kept my promise.”

Observation

A valley full of dry bones- how many people does that represent?

Bones- dry, no life, no future, no hope.

Then the Spirit of God comes in bringing life, hope and power.

The impossible happens- the dead bones are brought together, life comes in and an army is formed, These are strong men not zombies, real life not a pale imitation.

What a picture of Pentecost this is! The church is dead and lifeless without the Holy Spirit- there is no future and no hope. But when God comes in everything changes. The bones become more than just bones- they become a powerful army able to take the land for God.

Application

A christian without the Holy Spirit is a miserable thing! Even worse is a church without the Holy Spirit.

Every christian needs to be filled daily with the presence of God. We need a daily encounter with the living God.

This is more than externals such as church attendance, cell groups, Bible reading and good deeds.

God wants to dwell in us and have fellowship with us. We wants us to be walking, talking and acting in partnership with Him.

We need that “release” or baptism in the Holy Spirit which will empower us to walk the walk. We need to be seeking this power in our lives every day.

Prayer

Holy Spirit come and fill these dry and dusty bones. Let me know your presence now, your power flowing through my spirit. Transform the whole church into a mighty army as we seek you together. Amen.
