Bushfire Update

The total killed is now at 126, with many people still missing.

Forensic services are overwhelmed with trying to identify bodies. Doctors say that the burns of many survivors are worse than those experienced in the Bali bombings.

Many stories are coming out of people having virtually no warning that the fire was there- it seems to have moved from a smudge on the horizon to being right there in no time at all.

We are inclined to think that we live in safe places, but this tragedy reminds us that just because a place is comfortable does not make us safe.

  1. So true. After we had a bad flood a year and a half ago, it reminded me of the same thing.
