Blame the Dogs

Another example of people shifting the blame.

Imagine this, you go to a music festival with some ecstasy tablets. The sniffer dogs come along and scared of being caught you ingest all three tablets at once. So who's to blame for the overdose? Apparently everyone except you!

Sniffer dogs blamed for BDO overdose

Campaigners against drug sniffer dogs say a death from an overdose at Perth's Big Day Out music festival on Sunday shows the police tactic is dangerous.

It is believed a 17-year-old girl took three ecstasy pills at once because she was scared she would be caught by the dogs.

New South Wales Greens MP Sylvia Hale has been warning governments for years this might happen if they use sniffer dogs at festivals.

"It just makes one incredibly sad," she said.

"What do you say to the parents?

"What do you say to the police or the state governments who have so consistently ignored the warnings?"

Ms Hale says an ombudsman report has criticised the use of dogs at music festivals, saying they are ineffective.

"They're real PR exercises, trying to persuade the public at large what they're doing is effective. Whereas, indeed, it really is life-threatening behaviour," she said.

Oh look Ms Hales is a member of the Greens Party- say no more!

  1. I wish I knew what it was that my parents did or said when I was growing up. I had my issues like most kids, but never had the desire to do drugs. I guess if I knew the answer to that, I could write a book and save a lot of kids from tragedies such as this.I'll have to ask my mum and dad what they did, but I think maybe it was just a good example and high expectations. My mother always quoted, "Unto whom much is given, much is expected".Do you know - I was extremely shocked about this. A lady I know asked if I smoked pot. I told her of course not. She then told me that about 80% of adults that I know do. I still can't really believe that that many people do. What do you think?

  2. One of the most fascinating comments about the use of drugs was a man who rang up a local talk-back show once and said this: "Current estimates are that one in three people were sexually abused as children, leaving them with terrible emotional pain. Heroin is the world's most effective pain killer. Is it any surprise we have an epidemic of drugs?"If you add to that all of the other deep pains that people feel- broken families, rejection etc. then it's not surprising that people do use drugs.I'm very wary of simple drug use statistics. I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of adults have used pot once (when I was at Uni the smoke was so thick sometimes that I'm sure I was a little happier than I would otherwise have been!). It's very different to infer from that that 80% use it regularly.I'm told that cannabis stays in the blood system much longer than other drugs (several days), so with the move towards random drug testing in various occupations and for drivers, I think it will marijuana will become much less popular.
