The head of the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) says that militant extremism will continue to destabilise the world for a long time.
Paul O'Sullivan says the conflict between advanced democracies and non-state organisations based on radical ideologies is the biggest threat since the Cold War.
Speaking at a function in in Sydney today Mr O'Sullivan said there can be no guarantees that the growth of extremism can be stopped.
"On current indications, terrorism around the globe is likely to be a destabilising force into the next generation," he said.
"It is dynamic, difficult to predict and there are no guarantees that we will be successful in preventing further mass-casualty attacks or stopping its growth."
Did you notice the word that is conspiuously absent here?
Hint: it is not about the threat caused to world peace by radical Baptists!
We are in BIG trouble if ASIO has gone polically correct on us.
