Reflection on Habakkuk 1:1-4, 2:1-4

Scripture
Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.”

Observation
Habakkuk is perplexed by God's seeming tolerance of evil and injustice. He says the law is paralysed and there is no justice in the courts.

He resolves to go to the watchtower to wait for God's answer. God does answer him by promising that His answer, His revelation will come- it is in the future but is no less certain for that.

The righteous will live by faith- not the wealthy who trust in power but those who live by faithfulness.

Application
There are all sorts of reasons to give up on God. We can look all around us and be discouraged by the sheer scale and pervasiveness of evil.

God wants us to live by obedience and faithfulness to Him. As we do that, the light of God's glory begins to shine through every facet of society and evil slowly erodes as righteousness increases.

Prayer
Lord there is so much evil in the world. Even in peaceful places violence can be an issue. Help me Lord to be righteous in all that I do and to let your glory shine through me.
