Holiday Snaps!

Margaret & I have just been away for a brief holiday at Port Macquarie.

We stayed at the Beaches Resort at Flynn's Beach.

The weather was quite uninspiring to start off with- cold, windy and torrential rain leading to some localised flash flooding. Just perfect! We spent those days shopping and watching Midsomer Murders on DVD.

By Saturday the weather eased somewhat and it was really pleasant on Sunday.

I've uploaded some photos to this album.

But here are a few samples:

The currawongs were really friendly at a rest stop on the Oxley Highway at Stockyard Creek (near "Gingers").

A sailing boat at anchor near the City Centre.

My beloved wife.

This is one of the biggest blue-bottles I've ever seen. The floater was nearly as long as my foot and the tentacles were about 3 m long. I wouldn't have liked to have been in the water with this one. For those who are not Australian, these are relatives of the Portugese Man-of-War, a group of jellyfish which use stingers on their tentacles to kill small invertebrates. Blue-bottles tend to be endemic on the East coast of Australia and from time to time get blown into the beaches. The stings cause severe pain. You can imagine the scenario of being entangled in the tentacles of this little critter!

  2. It was all too short Lois :DOn the other hand it's great to be home seeing the wheat starting to grow, the paddocks green and farmers smiling.
