Reflection on 2 Kings 5:1-14

Scripture
“If the prophet had told you to do something difficult wouldn't you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply “Go and wash and be cured.””

Observation
Naaman, a mighty warrior from the Aramean army had leprosy. An Israelite slave girl who had been kidnapped by the Arameans told Naaman that Elisha could heal him.

Naaman went to the king of Aram who sent him with a letter of introduction to the king of Israel. The king of Israel was distressed when he received the letter for it required him to heal Naaman.

Elisha heard about this and directed Naaman, through a servant, to bathe in the Jordan River. This affronted Naaman's pride but his soldiers exhorted him to swallow his pride and to just do it. The result was that Naaman was instantly healed.

Application
Sometimes pride can prevent us from receiving God's blessing. Perhaps we are too proud to ask for His help. Perhaps we are too proud to even see that we have a need. Perhaps God requires us to do something that we consider is silly or undignified or even just out of our comfort zone.

There is usually a way that passes through humility to joy.

Prayer
Lord help me to humble myself before you and not close myself off to the things you want to do in me and through me. Amen.
