Scripture
Then the woman told Elijah, “Now I know for sure that you are a man of God and that the Lord truly speaks through you.”
Observation
The Lord moves Elijah from the place where the ravens had been feeding him and takes him to Zarephath.
The famine is very severe now and Elijah meets a widow who is literally preparing her last meal. He asks her to give him a bite to eat and reassures her that the Lord will provide what she needs.
The widow's faith rises and Elijah moves in with her and her son. God provides miraculously for their household.
Some months later, the widow's son dies and Elijah cries out to the Lord on her behalf. The son is revived.
Application
This is a woman of great faith. She responds to Elijah's request for help even though she has nothing herself to give him.
God is always good to simple people who believe and trust Him, and who are generous with the little they have.
Although this woman is not named, she is mentioned by Jesus as a person of great faith.
Often it is the unnoticed people, the non-celebrities who gain God's attention.
Prayer
Father, today please be with me in all I do. Guide me in everything so that I will glorify you, even in the seemingly insignificant things. Amen.
