Rainy day

What an awesome day for rain today! We had 55 mm (a tad over 2 inches) in 24 hours which is 2/3 of our normal December total.

The creek down the back of our place is running full and just starting to trickle onto the soccer fields. There is a bit of a restriction as it flows downstream and enters the lake so it's just backing up at the moment, but will gradually drain back to a normal level.

These are the creeks on the other side of the railway tracks. They drain the rain falling on the Pilliga Scrub and are flowing quite fast. I would think that the next day or so should see a substantial lift in the level in the lake :)

These calves are loving the feed produced by the rain.

  2. It is so much needed, Lois. After several years of below average rainfall, we now are experiencing above average rain and it's really refreshing the land. Unfortunately many farmers around here had their wheat crops seriously downgraded because the rain at harvest time caused the grain to start shooting while still on the heads. But it's looking excellent for summer crops.
