Reflection on Mark 13:32-37

Scripture
He tells each of them what to do and orders the guards to keep alert. So be alert!

Observation
Jesus is stressing the unknown time of his return. We don't know when it will happen. Jesus himself doesn't know- only the Father knows. So we His followers need to be alert.

The man going away puts his servants in charge and tells them what to do- he expects obedience to be evident when he returns.

Application
The way to be ready for the return of Jesus is not through endless studies of the “End Times.” We don't need charts with dates and times on them. We need to find out what God wants us to be doing and get on with it.

In another place, Jesus compares the end times with the times of Noah when people continued with their work, their marrying and having children right up to the day of the flood. But Noah was saved by his faith in God and his obedience to the task which God had called him to.

What does God have planned for me to do today?

Will I be found obedient on the Day?

Prayer
Father please help me to walk in your ways today. Help me to obey you in the big decisions and in the little decisions that I need to make in the next 24 hours. Amen.
