Reflection on 1 Corinthians 1:1-9

Scripture
Christ Jesus chose you to be his very own people (v.3)

Observation
Paul is very clear on the topic of election, the doctrine that we are chosen by God. God calls His followers- it is never our decision alone but rather a response to God's prior choosing of us.

It is interesting how Paul talks of the church at Corinth- God gave Christ to you, he helps you speak and understand. Paul's heart is entirely for the church so that he looks and speaks from their point of view.

Application
God has called me to follow Him. I don't need to fear anything whether spiritual, physical, financial or relational.

God knows me. He knows my name and my address. He knows my deepest thoughts and He loves me- so what do I have to fear?

Yet I still get anxious. I look at the amount in the bank and the debts I must pay and I fear. I look at the way the world is going and I worry about my children.

I'm like Peter- at times able to step out of the boat and walk on the water until I forget to look to Jesus.

Prayer
Lord Jesus help me to keep my eyes on you. As I walk through life let me remember that you have called me. I renounce all fear and anxiety now in the name of Jesus. Father I receive your peace and confidence to trust you in everything. Amen.
