Flat Out!

What a Day!

Filled in a hole that we dug earlier to fix a leaking water pipe. Then I mowed the grass. The recent rain has not only made it grow up but also thickened it up considerably. Poor mower struggled to get through it all.

After a quick lunch it was back outside to water the plants that I missed yesterday. A few weeks ago I planted some petunias in the planters at the front of the church and they are looking really nice now. I should take a photo. Hold on while I duck outside ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

There we are:

I think they will be really pretty when they grow up!

The fountain has been off all week due to some delightful children who had pushed the outlet hose inside the ball. That took a little bit of wrestling.

I finally got inspired to dig a small garden near the water meter. I always think water meters look lonely without flowers around them- it's probably some strange quirk of my upbringing :D I planted a couple of geraniums and some nasturtium seedlings I bought a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile Tim & James took off part of the roof to replace the wire that connects the controller to the air conditioner. The previous one was bitten clean through by our ever-friendly ceiling rat. I rewarded the rat with some really tasty treats and he won't be bothering us again. :yikes: The boys put the wire inside poly pipe so any future rats will have to work much harder to bite through the wire.

Margaret mentioned that she thought our rain water tank was looking like the rust is developing into holes. To test her theory I touched a couple of particularly bad patches and discovered she was right. One quickly became big enough to poke a 12 mm pipe through to divert the overflow to the garden. So now we have two sizeable holes about 30 cm from the top, which means we will have to lower the overflow outlet. The long term plan is to buy a new plastic tank- at least we won't have to worry about that rusting through!
