WHEN Nick Holland's landlord told him the rent was going up by $50 a week, he took it in his stride."We let him know that we weren't pleased but we didn't know if there was anything we could do," Mr Holland said.Then came the second $50 rise, bringing the weekly rent on his four-bedroom Newtown sharehouse to $750 a week."With this second rent rise, we are a bit more angry. The dishwasher has been broken for months and there's a huge gaping hole in the wall," he said.Mr Holland is among thousands of Sydneysiders struggling in a landlord's rental market as demand increases and the number of houses available shrinks.
