Dance Theology

Thursday night I attended Susannah's end of year dance performance.

The performance was based around a history of Australia and how the Holy Spirit has been present in our history.

It really hit home during the performance that God really has been directing the events of our history over thousands of years.

We sometimes lose track of these "big picture" in the midst of our daily battles and concerns.

We sometimes get lost in the fact that godlessness seems to be gaining the upper hand in social structures, in government and in schools.

But God has been here since before the time of white settlement. He arranged for this nation to be virtually isolated until the 18th century. He arranged for the early convict settlement and for the free settlers to come. He arranged for this country to be settled by a people who were strong in christian conviction, for a culture that was dominated by christian values.

It was God who called people like "Flynn of the Inland" who founded the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

It was God who inspired the architects of Federation to create a single nation out of the colonies.

It was God who in 1606 led an early navigator to call Australia "The Southland of the Holy Spirit."

And God will see this great nation of ours arise to meet its divine calling.
