On the way to India

Here I am in Sydney, having completed the first step of this epic journey to Asia.

What a surprise! Little old me, a small church pastor from a small town in NSW. All I have is a determination to follow wherever God leads me, and to trust that He will give me the resources I need.

I am really grateful that I have Michael with me, organising the trip and planning the small details. It's reassuring to know that one of us knows what we are doing!

Talking to Michael on the train it seems that there are issues with some of the people we will be meeting with. This is obviously not the place to go into details, but we will need the wisdom and grace that only comes from the Holy Spirit.

The motel is the standard Formule 1 cubicle. What is non-standard is there is no McDonalds next door. We walked over to the Airport Domestic Terminal, into the secure area and then after perusing all the options settled on Hungry Jacks! I guess there will be plenty of opportunities for more exotic food in the next two days. Michael said that the first time he went to India, the people there found a Domino's Pizza place the first night! The wonders of globalisation!

In the morning, we will be catching a shuttle bus to the International Terminal. The plane leaves at 11.30 am and we get to Chennai at about 7.45 pm. Then the fun really begins.

The baptism on Saturday threw up some very interesting spiritual events. James had a vision in the worship time before the session. In the vision he saw himself going into the water but was bitten by a snake. He pulled the snake off himself and said "You can't hurt me, Jesus has crushed you." He then crushed the snake's head in his hand. He was bemused when we went to the creek for the baptism and there was a black snake poking its head out of a hole.

We know that satan hates people making a public declaration of their faith and it was clear that this was meant to disrupt the baptisms. But Jesus is stronger than satan and he always overcomes! Praise God!

UPDATE: 4/10/06. We got to the airport safely and are awaiting our flight.

  1. Re the actual snake seen near the creek. I don't know about those first on the scene, but when I saw the snake its head wasn't poking out - it had only got partway out but turned around and had looped back into the same hole. That's the first time I've seen a snake in that particular pose..
