Sunday October 8th
Our day started at 5 am this morning in preparation for the 6 am service. Hard for Australians to believe, but 6 am was actually the most attended of the 4 services we spoke at today!
At the first service Pastor Vincent presented us each with a shawl as a token of honour and respect.
Michael and I alternated the preaching duties, so that I spoke at the 8 am and 11 am services. All except the 11 am service are in the Tamil language so we had to use interpreters each time. Michael spoke about the spirit of lawlessness as we both feel this is a big spiritual power in the city. I spoke about the spirit of the orphan and this was well received by the congregations and by the pastors. We felt that at each service there was something of a breakthrough in the hearts of the people. At last it feels like we are being very useful instead of just tourists!
After lunch at Wang's Chinese restaurant, we came back to the hotel by auto-rickshaw, which is a sort of combination rickshaw and motor bike. It was a pleasant enough ride and cost just R150 ($5).
Tonight we travel to Bhimavaram on the night train. We are travelling 2nd class AC which is the highest available on this service. The AC stands for air-conditioned- so it should be comfortable enough. Premnath will be coming for us shortly, and he will take us to the station.
I continue to be amazed at the relatively casual attitudes to road safety. The loneliest businessman in the country must be the man who sells motor bike helmets! Millions of scooters, but very few helmets. Women dressed in brightly coloured saris sit side saddle on the motor-bikes. Peak hour buses are very interesting sights with people hanging onto the outside of the bus for kilometres at a time. It makes you wonder about the road toll- I prefer not to ask!
Blessings
Keith
