Myanmar 16-10-06
We finished the conference today and it was very good. The participants were so warm and open. It was a pleasure to speak.
The previous days were held at a place near our hotel. the Myanmar Evangelical Graduate School of Theology. As the school was operating classes today, we held our meetings at Dr Ram's school which is just outside the main metropolitan area, in North Dagon.
As soon as you cross the bridge which marks the change from Yangon to Dagon, the road becomes very rough and difficult to negotiate. Ram's home is not air conditioned so we were a bit less comfortable than previous days, but it was a good time.
At the end, Ram presented us both with a tie, a wall hanging showing Myanmar and a bag for our wives. They were very nice gifts.
We finished up with a splendid lunch cooked by Ram's cousin. It was delicious. I think I'm getting a taste for Asian food!
Tomorrow we do just one short session at the Gospel for Asia school, and then we are done. On Wednesday we fly out to Singapore, which is as far as we have been able to confirm. We are on standby for flights to Sydney and Brisbane, and the worst that will happen is that we have to spend the night, but we are praying that God will make the way for us to return a day early.
While I love Yangon, we feel really isolated here. It costs $US5 a minute to ring home and internet access seems hard to get. I rang Margaret this afternoon as a surprise, but it was the fastest two minutes in my life. It was nice to talk though.
Blessings
Keith
