Terrorist Farmers?

According to the ABC, the government is looking at restricting access to agricultural chemicals following the latest terrorist plots.

This is quite reassuring. After all in the plot to bring down planes between the UK and the US:

  • None of the suspects are farmers
  • None of the chemicals used were actually farm chemicals
  • No sheep or cows were involved

What is wrong with our politicians and bureaucrats? How much ammonium nitrate do they think you can put in your baby's bottle?

While the Government is trying to make it impossible to buy Roundup, at most regional airports the security screening goes like this:

"You aren't carrying any knives are you?"
"No, but I do have a very large bomb in my backpack"
"OK- fair enough, you're right to board."

It all seems very bizarre to me.

If I wasn't so naive I might suspect that the Government has a very different agenda... but politicians never try to restrict what people can do for no good reason do they?

  1. You've heard, I'm sure, the comment, "But the governmnent is your friend, they are there to help you". Ha ha ha. The US is apparently doing everything possible to fight identity theft. Yesterday, in the course of her job, one of my co workers needed to set up an on-line mortgage payment for a property the company just purchased, it was a take-over-payments thing and the mortgage had not yet been transferred from the seller's name. Just for fun she checked out on the internet if she could find all the necessary information to set up such a transaction. Sure enough, - guess who provided all the info... our government. The guy had been in jail, so the corrections department provided everything she would have needed to know, even including the man's height and weight. Yes, very helpful folks.
