Scripture
Jerusalem, I will speak up for your good. I will never be silent until you are safe and secure, sparkling like a flame.
Observation
God has a great vision, a dream for the city of Jerusalem. Even though its present state may appear to be poor and abandoned, God actually sees it as a jewel in the crown, a place of freedom, peace and prosperity.
In one sense it is speaking of the city of Jerusalem. He has restored it and made it a place of greatness- although as a secular city it is yet t be the bride of the Lord.
In another sense, this is speaking of the church which inherits the promises of Jerusalem. God has a great vision for His people.
Application
At the time this prophecy was given, Jerusalem was an abandoned place. Yet God never gave up His plans for her.
At times we can feel like we've missed the boat with God's plans for our life. Bad decisions, rebelliousness, hurt and sin can all lead us to places far from God's best for us.
But God never forgets the dreams He plants in our hearts. It's never too late to get back to the centre of His will.
Prayer
Father, you never give up on us. You never forget your promises, even if we do. Thank you so much for your faithfulness. Amen.
21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place [1] of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, [2] and God himself will be with them as their God. [3] 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
