Reflection on Hebrews 10:11-25

My friends the blood of Jesus gives us courage to enter the most holy place by a new way that leads to life. And this way takes us through the curtain that is Christ himself.

Observation
The sacrifices of the old covenant could never completely take away sins, but Christ is the sacrifice that is truly effective for ever. This is a one-off sacrifice that is good forever, not like the futile old covenant animal sacrifices.

When sins are forgiven there is no more need of sacrifices.

Because we have been given such a wonderful blessing we have a responsibility to encourage one another, to help one another and to meet together so that all of God's people are helped to remain faithful to Him.

Application
This passage really makes clear how weak the Old Covenant sacrifices are. They don't really take away sin- at best they just cover it over. Through Christ we have a perfect sacrifice who takes away the power of sin for the whole world for ever. He has brought to us the promise of forgiveness. This is not just a legalistic exchange of one sacrifice for another, but a shift in the way we experience God- true forgiveness is poured out to us.

Because of this, we can all do at any time what only the High Priest could do one day of the year- enter fully into the presence of God in the most holy place.

Some christians want to take up parts of the Jewish religious system But why would you take up something that is limited and ineffective and pass up on God's perfect sacrifice?

Thank you Father for the perfect sacrifice of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you for allowing me complete access to your presence, any time and any place. Amen.
