Reflection on Acts 3:12-19

Scripture
“Friends why are you surprised at what has happened? Do you think we have some power of our own? Do you think we were able to make this man walk because we are so religious?”

Observation
Peter and John had healed a lame man by simply saying “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.”

A crowd gathers amazed at this great miracle. But Peter and John quickly turn the attention and the glory away from themselves and toward Jesus. “This is about Jesus- it's not about us.”

So often these days, the healers and miracle workers want to claim the glory for themselves. They sound religious but in reality it's all about them.”It's the anointing” or “It's my ministry” or “If you are as spiritual as me you can do this too.”

Peter and John are very clear that it's not any power from them or any special thing that they have done- it's the grace of God working through them.

Application
Everything is about the grace of God. The faith we exercise is a gift from God. The power of God is not ours to own or command- it's all God's to use.

All we can do is listen to the Holy Spirit and find out what God is wanting to do. The secret of the christian life is this- it's all about Jesus. My faith, anointing, spiritual gitfts are all from Jesus, for Jesus and to the glory of Jesus.

Prayer
Jesus, let my life in all of its parts glorify you today, tomorrow and always. Amen.
