Lawn chair not an ideal aerial vehicle
Next time you are worried about flying, think about this guy!
BEND, Ore. (UPI) -- A gas station owner in Bend, Ore., learned that while you can travel 200 miles through the air in a lawn chair, it isn't always the safest way to fly.
Oregon resident Kent Couch said that when he attempted his second flight in a lawn chair suspended below several balloons last weekend, he found himself encountering significant mid-air turbulence, KTVZ-TV in Bend reported Tuesday.
Couch said the key problem with his aerial flight Sunday was that he didn't have the foresight to add a safety belt to the balloon-laden lawn chair.
"For some reason, I thought these accept turbulence, go with the wind," Couch said of his home-made contraption.
Despite the scare during his unusual flight, Couch managed to steer through the turbulence and land nearly 200 miles away from his launch site.
Couch learned another key lesson for lawn chair flight, KTVZ-TV reported.
After leaping off the chair upon landing, the makeshift vehicle flew away with all of Couch's gear on board.
