My first reaction was not good: at best a role-reversal as cheap humor. As I continued to ponder it though, I realized that Jesus was a man and He did get tired. So maybe it's not all that backwards after all. We're often too caught up in ourselves to bother with what God is calling us to do and we leave Jesus to do all the work on His own.
I guess my thought has always been that Jesus, being the Son of God had infinate strength amongst other things and He doesn't need our help in this way or any other. However, He has given us tasks to do and many times I find myself asking Him to do them Himself - e.g. "Help me to find the people in need, then tell me what to do, then help me do it", when I should be looking around for people in need, looking to see what I can do and then trying to do it without constantly asking for help.If I take on the responsibility to do these tasks, I always find there is amazing blessings that result.
My thoughts on this are that there are far too many things that need fixing for one person to do. So what we each need to do is to pray to find out the one thing God has called us to do, then get on with it.For some this will be helping out at the homeless shelter, for some teaching children or teaching adults how to read, for others preaching the Good News with words. If we all do that, then the Kingdom of God truly will be seen on earth. (That's not to say that we will bring in the Kingdom of God, but that people will start to see what Jesus was on about and want to be a part of it- just hedging my theological bets there!)

ReplyDeleteMy reaction exactly. We often focus on what Jesus can do for us, less often do we ask what should I be doing for him? Thanks for that comment Todd
