Today's Photos

I went looking for my camera today and couldn't find it  Margaret thought it might have been still in the van from last Friday's trip to Gilgandra. It was.

A whole week without thinking about taking a photo! I just can't believe it.

The Flickr group "I Spy" is focusing on the theme "Shadow" this week. There haven't been too many shadows in Narrabri, with all the cloud. But then I realised the whole region is in the shadow of the cloud :D

So near dusk I ventured out into the cold, blustery conditions and tried to take some photos. I don't know yet whether I'll put them into the "I Spy" group or not.

I was struck by the way the light of the street light lit up the top of the tree.

By setting the camera to auto f-stop I was able to get a reasonably crisp photo of lights at the roundabout.

While experimenting I managed to unwittingly set up a 15 second exposure. Have you got any idea how long 15 seconds is when you are cold and just want to get home?

  2. You don't use auto anything on cameras, that's cheating!

  3. I usually use auto-everything, unless I want a special effect like having it look like it really looks like (or something completely different to what it looks like). Or the auto-focus is focusing on the wrong thing. So you're out with your mates somewhere and want to take a photo, you whip out the white board to manually adjust the colour balance, then the light meter to set the shutter speed and aperture. And then you have to manually synchronise the flash with the shutter. Oh yes and get the tape measure out to make sure you get the focus right.By the time you did it all manually the moment would have passed.Of course you use some auto stuff on every shot, otherwise no photos would ever get taken... for one thing you would be colouring every pixel yourself and then it's called painting :P
