Last Week's Photos

Here are some photos of the last week.

We stayed at "The Haven" a beautiful conference centre on the beach at Emu Park, just out of Rockhampton. The centre is run by the Sisters of St Joseph (I think that's the right name), the order established by Australia's only saint Mary McKillopp. (I guess someone will correct me on those details!). They have probably had the location since it was worth next to nothing and in "the bush." Last year they spent $5 million on renovating and re-building the centre.

The beach was beautiful, and even featured some sunflowers growing in the dunes!

Here are the participants. They came from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Indonesia

One morning I woke up at 6 am and remembered that I had left my phone charger in the lounge downstairs. I ran down and grabbed it and saw the sun rising. I don't often see the sun rising so I ran to my room and picked up my camera to take these shots:

Here are some pictures of the scenery from the conference centre.

There were some interesting flora and fauna in the vicinity... a kookaburra, some caterpillars, beautiful but deadly lantana (it is a pest which chokes out native vegetation).

I will be blogging on the actual content of the seminar over the next week or two. I also have some ideas about some things I need to be doing, so there will be things becoming evident in the church over the next few months.

I tried to set this out in a more interesting arrangement but my opera wouldn't co-operate on that :(

  1. The photos are great!! The sunrise has such intense color!! The bird is a kookaburra?? I have heard the song about "the kookaburra sits in the old gum tree". I've always wondered what one looked like. You got some great shots!I'll be looking forward to hearing about the seminar!

  2. Thanks Lois. Yes the bird is a kookaburra. As well as the famous laugh, they eat fish and snakes and small animals (lizrds etc.)
