Today's Photos

What a corker of a day! After a very cold start- we had a frost in our back yard- it turned into a perfect winter's day. Sunny, no wind, great to be outside.

These photos were taken along the Gunnedah Road.

  1. It seems so funny to think of it being winter when we're in the middle of summer here, heat and humidity both in the high 80's or low 90's. Great shots!

  2. Thanks Lois! What's really funny is when during Wimbledon it's warmer here in the depth of winter than the peak of London's summer.Spring's on its way-- just a few more weeks to go. This week looks like being particularly cold with more below freezing minimums.

  3. Well, I'm looking forward to the winter. The bad storms and flooding last year worried me a lot. I know it shouldn't, but there it is - human weakness. We don't often have flooding in the winter.

  4. Over the history of our town we've had floods in every month of the year. They are probably easier to manage in summer than in winter, although summer floods bring their own challenges like mosquitoes etc. Most of our floods originate from rain in other places washing down creeks and rivers so we usually get several days' notice of a flood event. Our house is way above the historical flood levels so we don't have to worry too much.Hydrologists say there is a chance of a "Noah's Ark" flood which would see major flood-waters from several catchments arriving more or less simultaneously in Narrabri. They say this is a 1 in 1000 year probability, and if this happened the only thing to do would be to head for the hills- before the roads all get cut :O

  5. Speaking of mosquitoes.... I was hearing a lot of noise outside last night. I thought the well pump was cycling on and off, which could eventually burn out the pump so I thought I should check. It was chickens!! They were inside their chicken house pecking at the mosquitoes on the wood walls. I've heard it before, but never as much or as loud as this. Those poor chickens had mosquitoes everywhere. We eventually helped them out by putting a fan in their house.

  7. And give the little critters some breezes to ride on. Hopefully ride right out of the chicken coop!
