This afternoon, I received a letter from the child our church sponsors through Compassion. Jonathan lives in a village in Bolivia and we have sponsored him since he was about 7 years old. Hid father died a few years ago, leaving his family even more impoverished.
Jonathan is now in his final year of school and is thinking of a career in medicine. I'm not sure whether he is thinking about being a doctor or a nurse or some other related profession. I suppose that this will become clear as the year progresses.
Jonathan also writes worship songs for his local church.
I think it's wonderful that a child growing up in such difficult circumstances has the opportunity to even think about a career in the medical field.
I'm thrilled that we have played a part in his education and spiritual growth.
How very rewarding! I liked to have my kids participate in supporting through the Christian Children's Fund. From their meager allowance, they were required to spend some, save some and give some to the poor or the church. They always picked the sponsored child as their charity. In October, they would reach down the back of the sofa, the car seats - anywhere they might find some money and we would buy a money order and send if for a Christmas gift. It's so funny - I see my daughter starting the same thing with their son! I guess I must have done it right!
