Today's Photos

Another strange day weather-wise with black clouds coming over late in the afternoon. Here are some galahs and a peewee in a tree, along with a white water bird... a heron?

  2. I think so... although it doesn't do them much good when trying to out smart a speeding truck :(

  3. They're so beautiful! Maybe it's just a different kind of intelligence.

  4. The pink and grey ones are caled galahs- they are relatd to cockatoos. They are renoowned for their extreme lack of intelligence so that in Aussie slang if you think someone is being silly you call them a galah.. it's a friendly term though. On the other hand, they seem to mate for life and often flock in flocks of up to a hundred or more and still manage to find each other in the crowd... so they must have a fair amount of intelligence there.

  5. True, chickens are pretty dumb, yet they are able to communicate if there is danger from the sky, and a different warning if the danger is on the ground. Some of these grew up from babies where they didn't have contact with the larger ones until they were almost adults. The rooster would get concerned that they didn't understand his warning, and would run to a safe place then make sounds as if he had found food to get them to safety.
